Made in the USA

Sustainable Packaging Maker Provides “Made In The USA” Products. With more policy changes coming, it may make sense to consider American Made Packaging.

We may be in our 99th year of business, but we are thinking more and more like a start-up company. With patents, equipment and knowledge, we can help customers find sustainable packaging solutions.”

American Made Packaging

Leading CPG, food and pharmaceutical packaging supplier Carton Service CSI, has been making sustainable paperboard packaging for almost 100 years. In business since 1926, company president Reid Lederer says “We may be in our 99th year of business, but we are thinking more and more like a start-up company. This means reimaging all packaging offerings, getting over a dozen patents related to sustainable packaging, and expanding our capacity, equipment and services. We believe these changes are timely for brands that need American-made packaging for a circular economy.” Based in Shelby, Ohio, Carton Service has recently added a new flexographic press and multiple pieces of finishing equipment specifically designed for making gable-top, direct-contact paperboard packaging.

Company vice president of business development, Scott Garverick adds, “With tariffs and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policies looming (an approach that assigns producers responsibility for the end-of-life of products), finding USA-based manufacturers of gable-top cartons seems to be a priority. Paper over plastic is also a priority.”

One recent carton offering is an all carton, no cap solution that can be used for unusual contents such as soap, lubricants (like motor oil), and eggs in addition to traditional contents like dairy products. Most companies want to reduce their packaging use of non-renewable resources and this particular packaging type features a perforated opening to dispense the container contents rather than a plastic cap.

“We wanted to create packaging brands that would communicate to liquid food, health and beauty customers that there are more sustainable packaging choices available,” said Lederer. “We intend to be sustainability packaging leaders and innovators into our next generation of Carton Service.” As an additional note, Carton Service is a member of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition. They have a substantive, free guide to Extended Producer Responsibilities here: https://epr.sustainablepackaging.org/. Carton Service also offers a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of their paper packaging versus glass, aluminum and plastic for companies considering making a switch.

Problemy społeczne

37 proc.
